Snake '97 Review

Snake '97 brings the classic phone game snake across to the new smart phone market, in all of its original glory.  Yet the developer has made sure to not only recreate the game but he has also tried to make the experience the same.

Many of us played snake on our old phones during the 1990's.  People were playing it at work, in the classroom, at the bus stop.  It was the app of its day.  Now everyone can relive the classic in Snake '97.

It emulates a range of different Nokia phones offering a different experience with each, that vary in difficulty.  Snake '97 is great fun but as there are no physical buttons, sometimes it can be hard to navigate the snake, as things get more frantic.

The designer describes the story behind the games creation:

"The story behind this game was that my iPhone got damaged, requiring me to revert back to an old phone. Suddenly I knew the iPhone was missing something and the idea for a accurate Snake remake was born.

This app was created as an homage to the original Snake programmed in 1997 by Taneli Armanto.
By carefully analyzing the original gameplay, timing and controls, this Snake ’97 remake is one of the most accurate available."

Overall it is a solid classic and it stays true in heart and feel to the much loved original and even offers a new mode, designed purely for the ipod.
