Castle Wars App Review

In Castle Wars the Barbarians and the Romans are at war.  You take the role of the Roman army and try to reclaim the land from the Barbarian forces.  The game is essentially a very paired down real time strategy game of point and click invasion.

In the game, you start every level with the same forces as your opponent.  You must try to out manoeuvre and outsmart them, in order to take complete control of the map and then eventually, the land.  While there is a few different building types to add deeper strategy I found that performing a Blitzkrieg on your opponents works for almost every level.  Take a base and then move on whilst using your magic to weaken the forces in your way and halt your opponents movement.  I found that by using these tactics the game was very easy and offered no real challenge or the strategy that was promised.
Castle Wars is nice to look at and the artwork does its job well in both the game play and the splash screens.

The game is complimented by a good progression system, that allows you to gain experience, in the form of gems to improve your army.  Despite the looks the game does lack substance, which you would expect from a game of this genre.

Even being able to play as a different force or the instalment of a few new maps would bring a bit more light on what is, after the initial few levels of gameplay, a rather dull and unchallenging experience.

The in App purchases are fairly redundant as the player can spend a little bit of time replaying old levels in order to speedily level up.  The max experience progression takes very little time to max out by which time nothing can stand up to you.

Castle Wars was great, but after the first five or six levels the game starts to get old fast, the graphics entertain but the lack of any substance or challenge leaves the game empty and brief.
