Resident Evil 4 Review

By many Resident Evil 4 is said to be the definitive game in the Resident Evil series, as well as one of the best games of its decade.  Seeing re-releases on the wii, PS2, ipod and soon the Xbox360, it seemsResident Evil 4 may never die out.

The ipod version of the great game distils down the story, the puzzles and hand picks action scenes for the player to work through.  The ipod reincarnation is basically a best of all the action scenes across the whole of Resident Evil 4.

Boss fights remain the same and if you are familiar with the game, you will be reunited with all of the old enemies as well as the annoying Ashley, who you must protect from danger.  The locations also remain unchanged but the graphics look similar to that of the original Playstation, everything lacks detail and is slightly fuzzy.

Despite the lacking graphics the game controls wonderfully using the two virtual analog sticks on the screen to move and aim.  Once the player adapts to the brief learning curve they will soon be popping heads in no time.

In order to pick up items and interact with the environment there is a button that will appear on the screen, making the game even more fluid and seamless.

Levels do not take long, to being with they only take around five minutes to complete, but as the game progresses some take a little longer.   Between these levels the player is shown the story in the form of screenshots and also gets the option to buy things from the merchant or upgrade their weapons.

The story mode is fully finished from start to finish with all the major set pieces.  When the App was first released it was a miss match of levels hand picked from different parts of Resident Evil 4's story but now it is complete.  There is also a large range of mercenary missions available to unlock as the story levels are completed.  These are essentially just short missions based around the various maps in game, they make for good distraction and are a nice way to kill some time.  Any cash that is earn't in this mode goes directly into your Story mode allowing the player to upgrade their arsenal further.

Their are multiple difficulties levels to play through so their is a lot of mileage in the game.  As far as ipod app games goResident Evil 4is unrivalled in terms of its story mode and it is a faithful version of the original game.  The same levels of tension and action are still apparent and the boss fights are as thrilling as they used to be.
The only drawback of Resident Evil 4 is that the game does get a little dull and it can feel at times repetitive.  However for the amount it has to offer and the challenges it presents Resident Evil 4 is well worth the purchase especially if your are into the series .
